Pelican Reef Factory Tours

Pelican Reef ’ s main indoor rattan & wicker factory is located on the small island of Cebu in the Philippines. The factory has 250+ employees and you will not find any ‘child labor’ in our factory.  The highest quality control standards are in place for production of our fine rattan & wicker furnishings.

Rattan is a vine that grows and is harvested in lengths that are used for the manufacture of rattan and wicker furniture. The poles arrive in bundles and are left to dry in the hot air. After the selection process used to sort the poles according to quality and diameter, the poles are run through an extrusion machine to remove the outer bark and make the pole diameter consistent. Rattan Furniture is a craft. The skill is passed down from generation to generation and the word craft clearly indicates that it is hands on and labor intensive. From the cutting, to the bending, to the construction, to the weaving, to the leather binding and then to the finishing, this is a truly  unique handicraft product.

Pelican Reef’s main case good factory is in China where our bedroom furniture and home office collections are produced. Pelican Reef’s case goods are branded with brass Pelican Reef emblems located in the top left drawer; your assurance of top quality. The furniture being made overseas take approximately 45 days to produce before it is boxed, and loaded onto containers that are then shipped to the Port of Miami. The entire process from start of production to the arrival at our Miami Distribution Center takes approximately 90 days. The Pelican Reef family has been manufacturing & importing fine Rattan & Wicker since the 1980’s.
