Rattan
is a vine that grows and is harvested in lengths that are used
for the manufacture of rattan and wicker furniture. The poles
arrive in bundles and are left to dry in the hot air. After the
selection process used to sort the poles according to quality and
diameter, the poles are run through an extrusion machine to remove
the outer bark and make the pole diameter consistent. Rattan
Furniture is a craft. The skill is passed down from generation to
generation and the word craft clearly indicates that it is hands
on and labor intensive. From the cutting, to the bending, to the
construction, to the weaving, to the leather binding and then to
the finishing, this is a truly unique handicraft product.
